dried shiitake mushrooms

If you ever wondered how to dry Shiitake mushrooms at home, you’ve come to the right place. It only takes a few minutes of actual work, and voila–you have dried shiitakes!

Dried Shiitakes are used widely in most Asian cuisines. They give the unique umami (savory) taste that fresh shiitake doesn’t. I use it in my soup, in my fish sauce substitute, and in so many other unique dishes.

Years ago, I didn’t know how to dry shiitake at home, and I had to pay a high price for it all the time. I had no idea that drying shiitake could be so simple.

I discovered this method by acidentally  leaving a bag of shiitake out of the fridge and totally forgotten about it.

By the time I realized that I didn’t put the shiitake in the fridge, it was all dried. It was exactly like the dried ones I bought from the store, and I stop buying dried shiitake ever since.

The best thing about drying your own is you can do it during the mushroom season. This way you can preserve the freshest shiitake while  it is cheaper. Also, drying your own there’s no need to worry about using any preservatives.

Ready to learn how to dry shiitake mushrooms at home? Let me show you how.
