Vegan popcorn is a great way to snack while enjoying your favorite movie without cruelty. How to get it? It’s so simple, and you can do it right on your own stove top. No need to worry about preservatives, unknown ingredients, and having to deal with any packaging. Ready for a new way to eat popcorn? Try this!
A few times before my daughter was born, my husband and I enjoyed microwave popcorn. It’s convenient, and the taste was quite good at that time. Interestingly, we never made it more than one bag at a time.
There are so many obvious things about it that pushed us away from microwaved popcorn: the bag material, the butter, unknown ingredients, and dealing with the garbage afterwards. I’m so glad we left it behind.
So, I started to pop my own popcorn using brown paper bags in a microwave. It worked ok, but I always ended up with so many unpopped kernels.

it’s so easy to make your own
Then, I tried popping it with a pot on a stove, and that worked really well. However, when our daughter was big enough, we started our movie night ritual. Ever since, popcorn has become more and more in demand, and using a pot to pop our popcorn didn’t work fast enough.
Despite trying not to own every kitchen equipment, I finally invested one of the whirley popcorn crankers. Believe it or not, it becomes one of the most practical thing things I can hardly live without.
With vegan parmesan cheese and vegan butter on hand, I can make popcorn and get everything ready faster than a movie picker can find a movie!
Here are things you need to make Vegan Popcorn:
- ½ cup (64 g) or a little bit less of either white or yellow popcorn.
- About 1 TBSP (15 g) of coconut oil.
- 1-2 TBSP (15-30 g) of vegan parmesan cheese.
- ¼ tsp (1.5 g) of salt.
Note: You can adjust the amount you want to make to your own needs using this measurement as a guideline
How:
- Grind some vegan parmesan cheese with a coffee grinder–skip this part if you already have some already ground,
- Melt some vegan butter on very low heat.
- Pop the popcorn on a stove: you can use a heavy bottom pot or pan. I’m showing you with my whirley pop that I have been using for over 10 years!
- With the popcorn popped, in a separate bowl, mix in the melted butter, sprinkle the salt, and the cheese. Mix well, and enjoy.
- Repeat if you want more–it’s easy!
enjoy!
