Aloe Vera Jelly? Yes, besides using it on skin, hair and making healthy drinks, did you know that aloe vera can make a very healthy and tasty dessert too?

Aloe Vera Jelly is no stranger to me, as I grew up eating this tasty dessert. I forgot all about it for awhile though since moving to the US.

It brought back childhood memories eating it after decided to put aloe vera back to my diet. As I always have aloe vera leaves and plants available at home now, Aloe Vera Jelly has become one of our favorite desserts.

It’s very easy to make, and the agar-agar powder makes it so much fun to et. It contains very minimal sugar, but it’s very refreshing, just like eating jelly.

Aloe Vera Jelly is perfect for days we want a light sweet. It’s a dessert that I have to make sure is available in the fridge. I make this all year round, but it tastes extra good during the summer.

Ready to make this easy, fun and healthy dessert? Let me show you how.

Ingredients:ingredients for aloe vera jelly

Note: Feel free to adjust the quantity you want to make according to this recipe.

  1. 1 ½ or 2 cups (354 – 472 ml) of chopped aloe vera meat
  2. 2 cups (500 ml) filtered water
  3. 2-3 TBSP (30-45 ml) sugar. I normally use raw unrefined sugar in my cooking, but for this recipe, I use unbleached organic cane sugar as it makes the jelly look nice and clear.
  4. 2 tsp (10 ml) agar agar powder
  5. About 4 TBSP (60 ml) or more of chia seeds
  6. A few glass containers of your choice. This recipe is perfect for 7 small (4 oz) mason jam jars

Instructions:

  1. Chop aloe vera meat into small chunks and set it aside. See how to prepare aloe vera meat here.
  2. In a small pot, add filtered water followed by agar-agar powder. Mix well and make sure all is dissolved with no lumps.
  3. Turn the heat on medium and bring to a boil. Let it cook for a few minutes then turn the heat off.
  4. Add sugar, stir until dissolved, and let it cool.
  5. When the mixture cools to the touch, add chia seed, mix well make sure they are not clumped together. Add the aloe meat and mix thoroughly.
  6. Pour the mixture in containers of your choice. If you like to eat more at a time, use bigger ones. I do both, but I like to make smaller portions and keep them in the fridge. They are easier to grab and have just the right amount of it.
  7. When it hardens, you can eat right away. If not, cover with lids and refrigerate. It stays fresh for a week or longer, but I like to finish it within a week.
  8. Enjoy!

This smoothie—which uses the fresh gel from inside the aloe leaf, although you could use pure store bought juice—is naturally sweet, using organic apple juice and strawberries to help hide any unpleasant taste. Raw brownies are the perfect summer dessert no baking means less heat in the kitchen! Plus they re a great way to secretly include aloe vera in a tasty bite that few could resist.
