How to cook rice without a rice cooker (it’s actually easier & faster!)

Have no idea about how to cook rice without a rice cooker? No worries, you are just about to learn how. If you have a pot, rice, water, a stove, and about 35-minutes, you are set for having rice to eat with your favorite dishes today.

A rice cooker had been part of my life for so long, and I never thought it would be possible for me to cook rice without one until one day when my rice cooker broke!

It shouldn’t be a problem to get a replacement, right? A rice cooker is not so expensive anymore, and It’s so easy to get one anywhere & anytime.

However, there were a few things stopping me for getting it right away. One is the teflon used in the pot, and another is trying to consume less resources. So, adding another kitchen gadget I know will not last is not what I want. These two reasons combined was enough for me to decide not getting a new rice cooker.

I’m pretty sure I could have gotten a non-teflon one if I wanted to, but I didn’t’ want to spend my time searching for it. Instead, I thought about how to cook rice without a rice cooker.

Then, I started to cook it in a pot on a stove, mimicking the way the rice cooker does. It turned out exactly the same, in fact it’s better as I can cook it anywhere, anytime I want with one less thing to own.

If you are thinking about buying a rice cooker, try this method first!.

Things you need if you want to know how to cook rice without a rice cooker:

  1. A medium size pot.
  2. 1 cup (128 g) of white rice (I’m cooking organic white jasmine rice this time)
  3. 2 cups (256 ml) of filtered water.how to cook rice without a rice cooker

Note: you can multiply the amount you want to cook by this simple recipe: one part of rice per two parts of water.

How:

  1. Put the rice in the pot, and rinse it thoroughly a few times, then cover the rice with 2 cups  (256 ml) of water.
  2. Cook with the lid covered on medium heat until it reaches a full boil.
  3. Take the lid off, turn the heat down a little bit. (pay attention at this point as it can overflow easily when it reaches a full boil).
  4. Let it cook uncovered until the water evaporates to the surface, put the lid back on .and turn the heat off.
  5. Let it continue to cook without the heat until you are ready to eat.
  6. Done, now you know how to cook rice without a rice cooker. It’s easy isn’t it!
